About the event
Workshop Description:
This 90-minute workshop provides an in-depth exploration of holistic psychosocial and emotional support for veterans, and their families. Participants will gain an understanding of the wide-ranging impact of combat trauma — on individuals, their loved ones, and family systems — and learn strategies to foster resilience, connection, and emotional healing.
The session emphasizes a trauma-informed, family-centered approach, highlighting practical tools to support reintegration, strengthen communication, and nurture relational wellbeing. Participants will also consider the secondary effects of combat trauma on caregivers, partners, children, and mental health professionals, creating a more sustainable and compassionate support network.
Following the workshop, attendees are invited to join three biweekly consultation groups to reflect on cases, share strategies, and collaboratively develop resources that enhance the psychosocial and emotional support of defenders, veterans, and their families.
Presenter:
Jana DeSimone Wozniak, PhD, is a clinical psychologist who currently lives and practices in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. She received her doctorate from Seattle Pacific University in Seattle, Washington, USA, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in General Mental Health/Primary Care Behavioral Health Clinics in the Department of Veteran’s Affairs Boston Healthcare System.
Currently, Dr. Wozniak works in an academic medical setting in Boston and holds an appointment as an Instructor in Psychology from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Wozniak’s clinical work has always centered on the provision of trauma-informed therapy in several diverse populations within the United States; she currently works primarily with U.S. military veterans providing individual and group therapy.
Because of her background in behavioral medicine, she is especially passionate about the implementation of practical or behavioral interventions that capitalize on the individuals’ own strengths in the service of fostering or enhancing resilience in the context of trauma.
